Throwback Thursday: Moon Shoes

Following the moon landing in 1969, America was swept up in the excitement of space and toy companies wanted to cash in on this. The result? Moon shoes.

The original moon shoes of the 1970s essentially strapped the wearer’s feet to metal springs to simulate the feel of walking on the moon. You, too, could know what it feels like to be a pioneer in the final frontier!

Safety didn’t appear to be a big concern but this was also a decade in which lawn darts were popular, a game that consisted of throwing javelins at your best friend.

Moon shoes were redesigned and reintroduced in the 1990s by Nickelodeon. Although they allowed for more movement and ostensibly fewer injuries, as a kid your ankles and shins were still beat to shit by these shoes.

Happy Throwback Thursday!
